Role Played By Particles of Medium in Wave Motion
If we throw a stone in a pond of water than circular waves are produced on the surface of water when we place some pieces of paper on water surface then it is observed that the pieces of paper are moving up and down at their own positions as the waves pass over them. The up and down motion of these pieces of paper is due to similar motion of water particles. Hence it is concluded that when the waves travel along the water surface, the water particles vibrate up and down, but they do not leave their position.
