Characteristics of Waves

1) There are two types of waves

i) Transverse Waves

ii) Longitudinal Waves

2) For producing the waves, a vibrating Body and a material medium are necessary.

3) The particles of the medium start vibrating at their own positions, when the waves pass through a medium. The particles of the medium do not leave the position.

4) Transverse waves can only be produced in solids but Longitudinal Waves can be produced in Solids, Liquids and Gases.

5) Wavelength is the distance traveled by a wave during the time in which a particle of the medium completes one vibration.

6) The velocity of a wave is equal to the product of Wave length and Frequency.
