Fluroescent Penetrant Testing
Fluroscent penetrant testing is equally applied for ferrous and nonferrous casting for locating cracks and voids which should be only the surface defects. The test surface is brushed and surface with the liquid penetrating agent which should have low sprayed tension so that it may readily be drawn into all surface openings.
The time for penetration depends upon the size wad type of opening and the metal of the casting. Later the casting is cleaned with water and dried. A dry developer h then sprayed on the casting and time given for developing is usually half that of the penetration time. The inspection is done under a black light. The penetrate solution bleed out and delineate defects during development. The greater the amount of solution bleeds out, the wide r will be the discontinuity in the casting surface.
