Hooke’s Law Applied to a Helical Spring

Hooke’s Law Applied to a Helical Spring
Let a helical spring be suspended vertically from a fixed support. A block is attached at its lower end. Due to force of gravity the block is displaced downward. As a result the spring is stretched. After a little while the block comes to rest and attains equilibrium. Under this condition the block is under the action of two forces (i) the force of gravity acting down ward and (ii) the tension in the spring in upward direction. In equilibrium the two forces are equal and opposite.
