Limiting Friction

What is Limiting Friction?

Limiting Friction
When an external force is applied against the force of friction the force of friction also increases by the same amount. Therefore it adjusts itself in such a way that it is equal and opposite to the external force. But at the same time, the force of friction has a maximum value, beyond which it cannot increase and if the external force exceeds this value, the friction is overpowered by the external force and a motion occurs. This maximum value of friction is called the “Limiting Friction.”
