Role of a Leader
A manager, as leader plays a wide variety of roles, in the organizational life, which are as follows:
(i) Stimulant
A leader stimulates followers superb performance, by inspiring them leadership. His outstanding personal traits. In helps the enterprise in the most effective and attainment of common objectives. He is a which intoxicates people to the extent of dedication to the enterprise cause.
(ii) Representative
A leader represents his' group to the , outside world. Within the enterprise also he forwards the viewpoint problems and suggestions, of the followers the top management:
(iii) Integrator
A leader attempts a reconciliation or integration of the personal objectives of individuals with those of the organization: In fact the best performance on the. part of his followers: would take place; while working for the enterprise objectives, the feel that there personal objectives are being realized.
(iv) Coordinator
A leader plays the role of a coordinator; synchronizing the actions of his followers in the same way it music director does helping various instrumentalists (playing on different musical instruments) produce a harmonious piece of music pleasant to hear.
(v) Fatherly-Figure
leader plays an emotional role acting himself as the ‘fatherly-figure’ for the group of followers; helping them as a friend and guiding them under turbulent circumstances.
(vi) Example leader
Is an exemplar (or a model) for his followers, by setting precedents of outstanding devotion, courage and integrity. He expects his followers to follow suit; and rather excel his own performance, by setting still better examples for others.
(vii) Expert
leader is aspect in the techniques of work performance; so as to be able to direct his followers along the most efficient lines of operation.
(viii) Arbitrator for Mediator
A leader acts as an arbitrator for settling disputes among his followers, with a sense of justice and impartiality. He thus helps maintain good human relations, in his workgroup.
(ix) Strategy-designer
A leader is a strategy designer i.e. he develops the master plan to realize common objectives in the best manner under the circumstances facing the work-group
(x) Philosopher
A leader is a philosopher whose mind is untroubled by hardships and who lets reason govern his life. He this, acts as an ideologist and guides his followers to overcome hardship and come victorious through courage, adventure and honesty.
