Q. How many types of motion of a body do you know? Describe each type briefly?
Types of Motion
Three types of motion can be produced in a body.
(a) Translator Motion
In this type of motion every particle of the body is displaced by the same amount.
Example
(1) Moving car on a road.
(2) A train on its track.
(3) Bodies falling on the ground.
(b) Rotational Motion
When an object spins or rotates about a fixed point or axis, its motion is called rotational motion.
Example:
(1) The rotation of earth about its own axis.
(2) Rotating wheel of stationary cycle.
(3) Blades of moving electric fan.
(c) Oscillatory motion
The to and fro motion of an object about a mean position execute regular intervals of time is called oscillatory motion.
Example
(1) The periodic swings of a clock’s pendulum.
(2) Movement of the strings of a sitar or a violin.
