The annual prize-giving function of our college is always’ a memorable event. All the students look forward to it. This year the function was held on the 15th of March. The programme included funny sports events, speeches by the Principal and the guest of and, of course, the giving away of prizes.
The college playground presented a beautiful scene. Red and gold shamians shone in the afternoon sun. The college flag fluttered on a high pole. The students waited impatiently for the programme to start. The programme began with the sack race. About ten boys, Wearing sacks up to their waists, began to run towards the finishing line. It was a funny sight. Many of them fell down. Only two boys could react here. The next item was he obstacles race Many obstacles like a set of hurdles, a slippery ladder, a broad ditch of water were constructed on the track. It was a hard race. My friend Mr—came first in this race. It was followed by potato race and three legged race. Then the staff’ race was held. It proved to be a very interesting item.
After those sports events, the Principal read his address. He reviewed the achievements of the college in the fields of education and sports. He thanked the guest of honour for accepting the invitation, and requested him to give away the prizes. After the prize distribution, the guest of honour made a short, humorous’ speech. He narrated’ some of his own experiences in the college, particularly’ in the playfield. Then he congratulated the prize winners, consoled the losers and thanked the Principal and others for listening to his speech. The Principal thanked him once again and the function came to an end. The boys made a noisy demand for two holidays. The Principal declared that the next day would be a holiday.
