Man has always been fascinated by moon.. He has been dreaming of going to moon for a long time. Now the dream has come true. The moon has been conquered. The impossible has been achieved. On 16th of July, 1969, the American Spaceship Apollo 11 took off from Cape Kennedy and began its long and historic journey to the moon. Three astronauts Armstrong Aldrin and Collins rode in the spaceship. They were going to do what, had never been attempted before. They were going to push back th barriers that had kept man a prisoner of this earth and its atmosphere.

The spaceship moved through the space at a tremendous speed. The whole mankind prayed for the success of the mission and waited in suspense and fear fir the news that would fill their heats with joy. The voice of America was broadcasting continuous commentary on the progress of the Apollo 11 and the condition if the three astronauts.

On the 19th of July, the spaceship entered the orbit of the moon after travelling two lakh forty thousand miles. Now it was the crucial moment. The lunar vehicle separated from the spaceship. Then on 20th July, the Lunar Vehicle landed on the moon at 1-17 p.m. The spaceship circled round the moon. Then came the historic moment. On the morning of 21st July 1969, at7:20 a.m. Armstrong left the Lunar Vehicle and stepped out on the surface of the moon. A little later Aidrin joined him.

Two human beings were walking slowly, carefully on the moon, some two lakh fifty thousand miles away from the earth. Billions of people who were following the progress of the Spaceship heaved a of relief.

Armstrong and Aidrin remained on the surface of the moon for about two hours. They installed some instruments and then collected samples of the dust and rocks of the moon. They had completed their mission. Then they went back to their vehicle, restarted it and rejoined the spaceship which returned to earth.

The 21st of July, will always be a memorable day In the history of mankind. Upto that day man had been a prisoner of this earth and its atmosphere that day the barriers that separate our earth from other planets of the universe were broken. In physical terms earth is a very small part of this vast universe, but it is the most important and the most advanced part. Man may be a handful of dust, but he is also the vice regent of God. He has been given the powers to explore’ and conquer and use this whole universe which God has created for him.
