Printer and its Types

Printer and its Types? Points : define printer and its types, printer, impact printers, non-impact printers, difference between impact and non-impact printer, impact vs non-impact printer, comparison between impact and non-impact printer, discuss some examples of impact printer, daisywheel, dot matrix, line printer, discuss some examples of non-impact printer, ink-jet, laser, lcd and led, thermal printer Printer Printer is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a computer and transfers the information to paper, usually to standard size sheets of paper. Printers are sometimes sold with computers, but more frequently are purchased separately. Printers vary in size, speed, sophistication, and cost.

There are many different types of printers. In terms of the technology utilized printers fall into basic two categories.
Impact Printers Impact printers include all printers that work by striking an ink ribbon. Daisy wheel, dot matrix and line printers are impact printers. Impact printers are much nosier than other printers. Non-Impact Printers Non-impact printers include laser printers, ink-jet printers etc. Difference between impact and non-impact printer
Difference between impact and non-impact printer
Impact Printer
Non-Impact Printer
1.They print by striking the ribbon against paper. The non impact printer use magnetic, thermal, chemical, inkjet, or laser principles to write character on paper.
2.Impact printer is to produce carbon copies, normally three copies at a time.It cannot produce carbon copies.
3.These printer are called noisy printer. These printers are called quite printers.
4.These printer are cheap. These printer are costly.
5.Impact printers are used for quantity and not for quality printing.Non-impact printer are the fastest and the best quality printer.
Some Examples of Impact Printer Daisywheel Similar to a ball-head typewriter, this type of printer has a plastic or metal wheel on which the shape of each character stands out in relief. A hammer presses the wheel against a ribbon, which is turn makes an ink stain in the shape of the character on the paper. Daisy-wheel printers produce letter-quality print but cannot print graphics. Dot Matrix Creates characters by striking pins against an ink ribbon. Each pin makes a dot, and combination of dots from character and illustrations. Line Printer Contains a chain of characters of pins that print an entire line at one time. Line printers are very fast, but produce low-quality print. Drum printers and chain printers are sub-division of line printers. Some Examples of Non-Impact Printer Ink-Jet Sprays ink on sheet of paper. Ink-Jet printers produce high-quality text and graphics. Laser Uses the same technology as photocopier machines. Laser printers produce very high quality text and graphics. Lcd and Led Similar to a laser printer, but uses liquid crystals or light emitting diodes rather than a laser to produce an Image on the drum. Thermal Printer An inexpensive printer that works by pushing heated pins against heat sensitive paper. Thermal printers are widely used In calculators and fax machines.
