Important Branches of Physics

Q Write the names of the important branches of Physics with a brief description of each.

Important Branches of Physics

(1) MECHANICS
It is the study of the action of force on matter and also the state of rest and motion of a body. It has further been divided into three branches.

(a) Kinematics
It is the branch of Mechanics which deals with the description of motion of objects without reference to the force or agents causing motion.
(b) Dynamics
It is the branch of Mechanics which deals with the study of matter under the action of some force.
(c) Statics
It is the branch of Mechanics which deals with the bodies at rest under number of forces, the equilibrium and conditions for equilibrium etc.

(2) Electricity
It is the branch of physics which deals with the study of electric charge and its effects when at rest or in motion.

(3) Electromagnetism
It is the branch of physics which deals with the production and effects of magnetism through electricity and electricity through magnetism.

(4) Solid State Physics
It is the branch of physics which is concerned with the property of crystalline material only that is of material in which constituent atoms are arranged in three dimensional lattices.

15) Atomic Physics
It is the study of structure and properties of atoms as determined by the electrons outside the nucleus.

(6) Nuclear Physics
It is concerned with the structure and reaction between the nuclei of atoms.

(7) Plasma Physics
It is the study of the properties of highly ionized atoms forming a mixture of base nuclei (nuclei without electron) and electrons called anion plasma.

(8) Bio-Physics
It is the study of application of physical methods and types explanation to Bio-Physical System and Structures.

(9) Astro-Physics
It is concerned with the application of modern physics to the problems of Astronomy.
