Major Scientific Achievements of Al-Beruni
Al-Beruni was the most famous scholar of the golden age of Islam.
He was born in a small town “Berun” of Afghanistan. Main Contributions
1. He wrote over one hundred fifty books on Mathematics, Colmology, Physics, Geography, History, Culture, Civilization, Archeology, Comparatives ligions, Geology, Chmistry and Biology.
2. He discussed the measurement of earth, the shape of earth, the movement of sun and moon, the phases of noon in his famous book “Qanoon Almasoodi”.
3. He also determined the densities of the metals.
4. He gave the method of determining the longitude and latitude of a place.
5. He measured the circumference of earth.
6. He also revealed that the Indus valley was once the basin of an ocean it was gradually filled up by mud. This theory has been confirmed by the modern geologists.
