The postman is one of those government servants who wear ill-fitting, almost shabby, uniforms but do excellent work. He does not look smart or important, but he is useful and hard working. Most of us meet him daily. He is so familiar that we lake him for granted. We do not give him a second look when he comes. It is only when he does not come that we miss him and realize his importance. He is humble and modest but indispensable. A postman’s life is hard and busy. He has a duty to perform quickly and efficiently. He cannot put off to another day what he has to do today. Weather is not supposed to interfere with his work. Whatever the weather—scorching hot or freezing cold he has to deliver mail once, twice or thrice daily, six days of the week.
Even if he is feeling unwell, he cannot slow down his pace on his rounds. A postman has to be honest. He has to deliver letters, parcels and money-orders to the right persons. He must give my letters to me and your letters to you. He cannot take chances and give your letters to your neighbours and hope they will reach you.
