The Rainy Season in Pakistan

English Essay on "The Rainy Season in Pakistan"

In Pakistan, the days in the month of June are extremely hot. The sun shines so furiously that it scorches the earth. Everyone feels uneasy. At some places even drinking water becomes scarce. The people pray to God for early rains and look towards the horizon with eager eyes.

Ours is an agricultural country, and much depends on rains. If the monsoon is delayed, the water level in the rivers falls dangerously low. ‘The canals run dry. The farmers, whose only source of livelihood is the land they till, become sad and disheartened. This is why the first showers of monsoon are received with great joy. The rain brings a message of happiness and prosperity.educationsight.blogspot.com The fiery sky now changes to clear blue with patches of floating clouds. The moist air lowers the temperature. Boys and children go wild with joy and run about the streets shouting for more rain. Within a few days, the earth becomes green with grass and other vegetation.

The animal world, too, is active. The birds have washed the dust off their feathers and sing joyous songs. They leap from place to place, pecking’ with their beaks and chirping with delight. Rain has brought them food and comfort. The frogs in the pools sing in a chorus. They chant hymns of thanks to the Almighty. The grass-hoppers and the crickets greet the rains with their loud and shrill cries.

The small brooks and streams, that had dried up earlier, begin to flow. The rivers are full to their banks, and the canals do not complain of short supply. The ponds are overflowing their edges There is water, water and water everywhere the farmer’s face shows joy and happiness. He drives his team of oxen before him and goes to his fields. He ploughs merrily and sings with delight, and expects a rich harvest.

But who can say that his peace will not be disturbed by the floods that the rains bring? Sometimes, the rivers overflow their banks and the flood water causes ruin and destruction wherever it reaches. Life and property suffer. If floods could be controlled, the rainy season is a great blessing.
