The Dog and the Wolf
Short Story on "The Dog and the Wolf"
Once, a starving wolf in his quest of prey happened to pass by a village. By chance, he met a corpulent dog there and eventually they developed a friendship. The dog observed the miserable condition of the wolf. He counseled him to join him in guarding the house of his master. He assured him that in return the master would feed him so well that within a few days he would become healthy and strong. The wolf had already suffered the hunger pangs. He readily accepted the invitation and accompanied the fat dog towards his master’s house.
Suddenly, he caught sight of a mark around the neck of the dog. The wolf enquired the dog, about the mark. The dog tried to avoid the issue. But on the insistence of the wolf, he had to reveal the truth. He said that it was the mark of a collar that his master put in his neck during daytime to prevent him from roaming.
When the wolf heard this, he was horrified at the idea of losing his, freedom at the cost of food. He thanked the dog for his generous sympathy and said. May no friend of mine ever is in such a plight for the mark of a strap is enough to spoil the appetite. He said good-bye to the dog and disappeared in the jungle in a flash.
Moral :
Slavery is a curse.
Better to reign in hell than serve in heaven.
Freedom is a blessing.
Hunger is preferable to slavery.
