Three Friends and a Bag of Gold
Short Story on "Three Friends and a Bag of Gold"
Once there lived three friends in a village. They were impecunious. Their poverty forced them to go somewhere to seek some source of earning. One day, they set out on a journey with the hope of bright prospects, they posed to be very sincere and true to each other, but secretly they were selfish and stingy. Each wanted to feather his nest by hook or by crook. While they were on their way through a thick forest, they found a bag full of golden coins.
They were profoundly delighted to find such a great treasure. They sat down under a cool shady tree to discuss the matter. Finally, they resolved to divide it equally among themselves. But, inwardly, each desired to be the sole possessor of the whole treasure. After some time, they felt hungry. One of them went to the nearby town to fetch some food. He decided to kill the other two friends by poisoning them. He bought some poison, mixed it in their food slid returned to his friends with the sweet dreams of having the whole treasure to himself. The other two friends were even far greedier than he. They had already conspired to kill him and divide the coins equally between themselves. No sooner did the third friend arrive there than they fell upon him and killed him. In no time) as they were starving they began to devour food hungrily. As soon as they finished eating the poisoned food, they became senseless and died.
Moral:
Greed is curse.
As you sow, so shall you reap.
He who digs a pit for others, falls himself into it.
All covet all lose.
Evil recoils the head of the doer.
It is bad to be selfish.
