Indo Pakistan War 1971

English Essay on "Indo Pakistan War 1971"

India had attacked Pakistan in September 1965 but she had to face a shameful defeat. Since then the warlords of Bharat had been planning to attack Pakistan once again. The results of the general elections in 1970 provided them a chance to separate one wing of Pakistan from the other. The Indian spies and agents entered the ranks of the Awami League in East Pakistan and persuaded some of its leaders to declare independence.

The then President of Pakistan, General Yahya Khan tried his best to bring round the Awami Leaguers to the path of sanity. But when his effort failed and the law-breakers including East Pakistan Rifles and Police became a threat to the country, he ordered the Pakistan army to take action. Our army jawans restored law and order in East Pakistan but most of the antisocial elements and rebels succeeded in crossing the border and seeking refuge in India.

The Indian Government trained these rebels in the use of military equipment and sent them back to East Pakistan. Our army faced them at different places and defeated them. Now, the Indians started giving them tire cover an the borders. Indian soldiers were also sent into East Pakistan as ‘Mukt’ Bahini’ guerillas but even these were dealt with properly. Seeing no way oat, India, at last, on November22, 1971, launched a full scale attack on East Pakistan.educationsight.blogspot.com The air link between the two wings had already been cut off and naval movement on the Indian ocean had also been blocked. The Indian warlords had secured the support of the USSR by the so-called treaty of friendship. Russia had supplied most modern weapons including electronically controlled missiles to India. On the other hand, Pakistan had to rely on its own weapons with which India had been defeated in 1965.

Even after ten days of severe fighting in East Pakistan the Indians could not gain any ground. On December 3, 1971, they attacked West Pakistan also but our jawans drove the Indians back to their own territory. The Indians had to suffer heavy casualties and they left behind much o their military hardware in various sectors of war. They gained some ground in Rajasthan sector, Shakargarb area and Kargil hills, hut they had to retreat in Chhamb, Fazilka and Wagha sectors. Our air force destroyed more than 140 Indian planes and our navy also destroyed some Indian ships.

The war had not yet entered any decisive phase when all of a sudden the East Pakistan Command had to surrender before the Indians. On December 16, 1971 a cease-fire came into effect on the Western front also. The causes of surrender and the cease fire are yet a mystery. Some great powers of the world were responsible for the defeat of Pakistan. The U.N. Security Council was made ineffective by the Russian Vetoes. The General Assembly which represents the true world opinion sided with Pakistan but it was helpless in enforcing its resolution.

As a consequence of this war, Pakistan lost its Eastern Wing, and the Indians succeeded in taking the revenge of their previous defeat. But every Pakistani knows that the defeat was a contrived affair. Our valiant armed forces had been betrayed by the rulers of the country. The morale of the Pakistani nation is still very high and our soldiers are as brave as ever.
